The design inspiration doesn’t end with events on SLD. Here is my first post regarding a home design. My fiance Steve and I recently purchased a new modern loft. We will not be able to move in for 90 days because it is new construction, so we are currently assessing which furniture will work in the new home, and what we will need to replace. We quickly realized that there is little in our current house, decorated with oversized, traditional furniture, that would work in our new small modern loft. Unfortunately, buying everything new is just not an option, so we are constantly trying to figure out a way to redesign some of our current pieces. (How green of us) Our first project EVER was our night stands. See the before picture below.
I must tell you, that Steve and I are not the “handy” type. It was obvious the Home Depot guy didn’t have much faith in us from all of our crazy questions. Regardless, we picked up some white primer, white paint, a tarp, some sandpaper, and we got to work. We sanded down the wood a bit to get the top finish off. This was not fun after the first 5 minutes, but it was drilled into our heads by Mr. Home Depot, that the amount of prep work determines a successful outcome. So we sanded away and then primed. We let it dry overnight and then returned for 2 coats of the white paint. When we finished, we visited anthropologie, and after being sidetracked by everything else in the store, we picked out the new hardware! (We are pretty obsessed with the outcome) Now we are inspired to do a lot more, so stay tuned!
The original night/end table is from IKEA and can be purchased for $60. It comes in a few different colors and it is made from pine wood, so it was easy to sand down and repaint. If you try it for yourself, let me know!
